History Postgraduate

The postgraduate studies in animal husbandry at the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV) began in 1962 at the master’s level and, in 1972, at the doctoral level, completing in the year 2012, 50 and 40 years respectively, both being the programs, pioneers in the area of postgraduate studies in Animal Science in our country.

The course at these levels has been evaluated in its academic structure and systematically redirected to meet the current and future needs of zootechnical science, being deservedly accredited and qualified by the Federal Council of Education (CFE). In the CAPES evaluations, the postgraduate degree in Animal Science obtained the grade 7 in the 2004-2006, 2007-2009 and 2010-2012 triennials, being recognized in academic and research circles among the best in Brazil.

The program aims at the formation of a critical mass of human resources, highly qualified, qualified and able to develop projects that aim to solve the problems of the zootechnical area. The coherence between the objectives of the program, its basic area and the research carried out, shows that teachers, researchers and technicians are trying to integrate and are engaged in the search for new knowledge and technologies for the development of Animal Science.

The program has contributed in a remarkable way in the training of human resources for research and teaching that today form the basis of several Graduate and Postgraduate Programs of the private and public network, highly regarded and also researchers who occupy prominent places in the main companies and industries of the country.
